What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fiber with six sub-classifications: chrysotile, crocidolite, amosite, anthophyllite, tremolite, and actinolite. Asbestos fibers are microscopic in nature and are extremely durable and resistant to fire and most chemical breakdowns and reactions. Due to the strength, durability, and fire-resistant nature of asbestos was used in different commercial and industrial products, including, but not limited to, floor tiles, ceiling materials, roofing shingles, cement compounds, and textile products.
It was discovered that exposure to asbestos increased the risk of lung disease and cancer. Asbestos is now strictly regulated and any asbestos materials that are damaged or disturbed should be handled and removed by professional asbestos abatement technicians.
